Butterflies are another personal favourite, so have their own category here. There have currently been identified more than 150 butterfly species in and around the Picos de Europa.

Iberian Wildlife Tours

A tour for Lepidoptera lovers, led by Teresa Farino

30th June - 7th July 2010

These week-long tours in the mountains of northern Spain will take us through meadows, forests and alpine habitats in search of butterflies & moths, offering a wealth of photographic opportunities. We can expect to see around 100 species of butterfly from our daily exploits, of a total of 155 recorded in the area.

A fun-filled family holiday designed to bring children into contact with nature. Although the emphasis is on butterflies and moths, there is also the opportunity for hands-on contact with other invertebrates, reptiles and amphibians, as well as swimming in a mountain lake and a day at the beach. This tour is led by Teresa Farino, with the assistance of her 12 year-old twins, Annie & Gabriel.

Spanish name - Chupa leche

The Spanish swallowtail is a large butterfly distributed over the Iberian peninsula with incursions south into Morocco and north into southern France.
