Casa Ordiales

near

Pola de Laviana

Situation

Set high on a hillside above the Nalón valley, Casa Ordiales is a haven of tranquility, south-facing with views towards Redes Natural Park. Just an hour to the west is Somiedo Natural Park, well-known as being one of the best places left in Spain to see bears. The house has few neighbours as the village is rather spread out over the hill and the country lanes carry little traffic so the only sounds you're likely to hear are the barks of distant dogs. With a large garden, part of which is a fruit orchard, you don't have to move far if you don't want to. Surprisingly the nearest place of any size, the town of El Entrego, is only 5 minutes or so drive down the hill, although you'd never know it from the house. Down there in the valley you'll find a hypermarket, bars, restaurants, shops, cinemas, a theatre, a leisure centre and bus and train connections. Carrying on a few kilometres north-west from El Entrego on the AS-117 is the larger town of Langreo and about 15 km's more bring you to Oviedo, the capital of Asturias. The airport is about a 45 minute drive from the house. Approaching Casa Ordiales from the north the road traces a ridge passing through tiny hamlets, affording wonderful views of the countryside.

House Details

Leaving your vehicle at the gate, the garden path brings you round to the orange tree and the front door of the house. Off the hall to the right is the recently re-fitted, spacious and modern kitchen and dining area with a rustic wood-burning stove and chimney. In a corner off the kitchen is an old-fashioned, walk-in larder. On the other side of the hall is a smaller room, the sitting room with TV/DVD and another wood-burning stove.

At the top of the stairs there's a bathroom with bath, shower, toilet and wash basin, then a double bedroom, a twin bedroom and a smaller bedroom with two bunk beds.

Information about the area, suggested outings, climbing guides (the owner is a climber), maps and books are all available at Casa Ordiales. There is also wireless internet access.

Outside in the garden you'll find a barbecue, table, chairs and parasol for enjoying summer evening meals while soaking in the wonderful views. Feel free to pick the oranges, apples and pears.

The house is available for rent all year with prices from £250 sterling, pw. including bedding, towels, electricity and logs for the fires in winter.
