Following on from the birds' arrival in the Covadonga mountains last month, the two young Lammergeiers (now named Leoncia and Deva) were released last Friday morning, watched by members of the Asturian government, shepherds and conservationists.

It must have been an exciting moment for project director, Gerardo Báguena of the FCQ, after so many years of frustrating set-backs, to finally see the first reintroduction of these Pyrenean raptors in the Picos de Europa.
